Welcome to Teen Kids Room! We are here to help you create ideas on how to decorate your kids room – whether they are a teen, a tott, or somewhere in between!
This is a fun project that you can work together with your child on to determine colours, style and the general theme you are going to go for.
It can be tricky picking something that will carry long-term, so keep in mind that your child’s tastes will change over time. Then again, this can be fun for you and the child, to update their room every couple of years to suit these changes in tastes!
You may like to play it safe and choose a colour or style that can be easily adapted to your child’s needs and tastes as they change. For example, selecting nuetral tones and colour schemes that you can dress up with accessories. This will be cheaper for you in the long term than putting all your money into a complete theme.
For example, you could choose white as the main colour used for walls and carpet (OK, maybe not for the carpet!), then buy removable wall stickers, light shades and other room accessories to add colour and theme to the room. These can then be replaced as your child grows and changes their tastes and likes.
Furniture is something that your child will grow out of with time, just like their clothes, however you can still select furniture that the child will grow into. For example, some parents will have a double bed for their child when they are two years old, so that they can continually grow into the bed. This will save them money in the long term, although not all parents will agree with this method, particularly if the child’s bedroom is quite small.
Some parents are concerned with keeping the child’s room in theme with the rest of the house. It may be more important to honour the child’s needs though, as they are the ones who will be spending the time in that room, and you can always close their door!
Do some research and try to involve your child in the process as much as possible – they will appreciate you for that, and it will also make it easier for you, as you won’t have to make all of the decisions!
Most of all – have fun with it! Decorating your teen / kids room can bring out your creativity and the inner child.
