Twilight Bedroom – Wall Mural Ideas

Are you decorating your teen kids room, or trying to think of a really unique way to create a Twilight bedroom, I may have just found it for you – wall murals!

Now most people when they think of a wall mural they think of painting the entire wall with a picture or design.  This is great for people who have that artistic ability and time to do this themselves, or for those who have the money to pay a professional muralist to do the mural for them.  I will cover the options for painting your own mural for teen kids rooms, however, there are also other options that are so much easier, cheaper and more convenient than having the wall painted by yourself or a professional muralist.  I set out the options below.

Mural Prints

Mural Prints are great if you do night have the time, money, materials or creativity to have your Twilight bedroom mural painted on your wall.

Mural prints come in different sizes – from almost covering your entire wall, to being a lovely centre piece on your wall.

When thinking of Twilight bedroom ideas for your teen kids room, I have come up with the following themes which would suit any Twilight bedroom:

  • Forest
  • Moon
  • Wolves

Forest Themed Wall

If you have seen the Twilight movie, you know what kind of forest theme would be suitable for a Twilight bedroom.  The forest in Twilight and the New Moon movie was dense, green, misty, and thick.  This gives you a good sense of direction for selecting the right kind of forest for your Twilight bedroom.

A black and white or night-scene forest would also be ideal for a Twilight bedroom, especially one with a moon.

Painting Your Own Mural

When painting your own mural in your teen kids room, make sure you do thorough research first, because the last thing you will want to do is to mess up your wall! 

The best way to pre-plan for your Twilight bedroom mural, is to cut out and gather loads of pictures to get ideas of what you want.  Then try to create a mini version of what you want to paint on your wall, on a piece of paper. 

Once you’re happy with your painting, draw a grid over your painting so you can ensure that when you paint the picture on your wall, it is to scale.  Measure the wall and work out the percentage increase your wall painting will be compared to your paper painting, and draw the grid on the wall accordingly.

You can then start by sketching the picture on the wall grid-by-grid, and then paint each grid of your Twilight bedroom mural one at a time.  This will ensure that you stick to scale uniformly.

You can use the posters and pictures on this page to get ideas for painting your own Twilight bedroom mural.  You can also purchase the posters that you like and grid them out as described above, and paint them on the wall of your teen kids room to create a Twilight mural of the poster/s.

 

More Twilight Bedroom Mural Ideas

Imagine a black feature wall with the hands holding the apple painted either in the centre of the wall (perhaps above the bed, or facing the bed) or off towards the left or right-hand corner.  This would make an awesome backdrop for your teen kids room Twilight bedroom theme!  You could then keep to the black, white and red colour scheme which would be so striking!


The below white Twilight sticker could be used to to stick between the wrists on your teen kids room wall mural, as in the above picture.  The “Live Love Twilight” sticker could then be placed above your bed like in the picture below.

     

Wolf howling at the moon (below) – this picture would look really striking on a feature wall in a Twilight bedroom.  It would be fairly easy to paint, too, just using black and white.  You could either print it out and grid it, then reproduce it on your teen kids room wall by each grid in pencil, then paint it.  Make sure you add a few red pieces of furniture or decor to your room to balance out the black and white effect.  A red throw across a white or Bella Swan bedspread would be great, and perhaps a red light shade or artificial apples placed around the room, or red framed photos of Edward Cullen.

Although a little cheesy, the below mural is a vibrant idea that is keeping in with the vampire theme, and therefore could work for a Twilight bedroom.  The rest of the teen kids room would need to keep in with the colour scheme here, so blacks, oranges and yellows, greys and whites would look quite effective.

Twilight Bedroom – Recreating Bella Swan’s Bedroom

It seems there are a lot of girls out there who are wanting to create a Twilight bedroom, and many who already have, by posting up pictures and posters from the movie, buying similar bedding to Bella Swan’s bedding and buying other bits and pieces of Twilight accessories etc to help them to create their own personal Twilight bedroom.

It’s funny, because after the first Twilight movie, my impression of Bella’s room was one that was quite dark and shadowy, with not much colour.  However, in Twilight – New Moon, I noticed that Bella’s bedroom had a bit more style and colour than I realised, and maybe over time she had developed that herself, whereas when she first moved to Forks she moved into the room that her Father had created for her.

So…if you are really wanting to recreate Bella Swan’s bedroom from Twilight, it will take a little bit more than just posters and pictures and the vampire colours of black, red and white.

Some people are choosing to paint their walls in black and red and white – symbolic colours of vampires.  However, after studying Bella’s bedroom, I noticed that she has dusty green walls, with what appears to be one feature wall where the door is, that is a dusty yellow.  The door and window frames are painted white/creme, and her curtains are a dusty blue, with creme/white sheer/light curtains against the window.

Bedding

I noticed on the new movie that Bella has a red throw across her bedspread.  From this observation, I noted that red would not necessarily go very well with a purple bedspread.  Therefore the similar bedding of charcoal/black colour would be ideal with a blood-red throw rug folded and placed length-wise across the bottom of the bed, and a couple of small red cushions placed with the pillows.  You could then choose to have purple sheets and pillow cases to “Bella-rise” the bedding more, or even dusty green or blue to match the curtains.

Furniture

When trying to create a Twilight bedroom, you need to ensure you select the right furniture.  Did you notice the furniture in Bella’s room in “New Moon”?  It is mostly old style wooden furniture – bed, desk, desk chair and arm chair by her window.  To recreate this look you could buy recycled-look furniture, or even purchase items from your local charity stores or keep an eye out at garage sales.  You could also purchase furniture new and create the ‘weathered’ look through using furniture/wood stain.  If you know a carpenter, perhaps they can help you to create the right furniture for you Twilight bedroom.

The desk was an unusual looking one – certainly old fashioned, and a dark brown recycled look.  It had an arch against the wall – something I have not seen before.  The bed frame seemed to match this style, having an arch with panelled wood, also in that brown recycled style.

The chair with Bell’s desk is again, made from a darker brown wood, in an old-fashioned dining chair style.  The chair by the window was a similar type of chair, although in an armchair style.

Other Decor

I noticed that Bella Swan’s bedroom in Twilight has some funky looking lamps.  There is a tall lamp with a vertical rectangular shape shade, creme in colour, and she has a matching smaller lamp on her bedside table/chest of drawers.  There is another lamp in her room which is also a tall standing lamp, this time with a normal lamp shade shape, with creme and browny coloured floral patterns – quite 1960’s – 70’s looking.  This is a style that has come back into fashion, and I find it really looks great in Bella’s bedroom.

I also noticed when Bella was having bad dreams and her dad came in to check on her, that there was a glass lamp shade mounted to the wall, giving off a yellowy-orange glow.  This could easily be recreated with the right decor.

In the second Twilight movie, Bella also has posters up on her wall, and pictures of her Edward in frames or just stuck around the place.  This would be easy to recreate, by printing off pictures from the internet and framing them and posting them up, or from magazines.

I have been scouring the internet to find some furniture with a ‘Bella’ look for you to use for your Twilight bedroom and this is what I have come up with:

The Twilight series are a rising sensation – particularly amongst girls.  The deep romance and passion of the story, coupled with the adventure the plot takes the reader on is addictive – even for adults.

Is your daughter in love with Eward Cullen?  Does she imagine herself as Bella Swan?

Imagine if you would create a “Twilight” style bedroom for your daughter!  Imagine her being the envy of her friends, and her bedroom becoming the place to hang out.  With Christmas around the corner, now is a great time to surprise her and create a Twilight bedroom for your daughter!

Ideas for Creating a Twilight Bedroom Theme

If you look through You Tube, you can get some great ideas of what other people have done to create the perfect Twilight bedroom.

If you are doing it as a surprise, you could have the room set up with candles and the soundtrack from the move playing for when your daughter enters the room, as well as a Twilight screensaver on your daugher’s computer or laptop screen. You can also set this kind of stage for a Twilight party for Twilight fans.

You could download pictures online and print them out and place them in a photo frame like this one.  The beauty of this frame is that it fits 10 pictures, so you can create a great collage from pictures you print off the internet or cut out from magazines.


If you want to buy furniture and decor that is not specifically made for a Twilight Bedroom, look for items with a gothic or medieval style, and go for blacks, whites and reds for a real dramatic Twilight effect.

You might even be able to pick up cardboard stand-ups of Edward and Bella from your local DVD store – its worth asking!  Usually DVD stores receive items such as these to put up around their stores, and sometimes they will have stand-ups that are damaged, or they have too many of them.  Or, since New Moon is the new movie, they may have old Twilight stand-ups that they no longer use.

You could create a utility box from cardboard and paint it and decorate it with cut outs or pictures and words and writing from magazines and the internet – this would be a cheap and effective way to enhance your theme.  You could even create a series of these items, and re-use other household items if you want to save money and have less of an impact on the environment.

Worried about the room being too dark? This youtube video shows how to transform an ordinary room into a twilight themed room without effectively without using too much black.  I also like the pillow cases having a print of a lion and a lamb – again, something that you could create at home.  This is definitely the best Twilight bedroom I have seen so far!

Teen Kids Room – Decorating for Boys

Teen Kids Room is a relatively new website to assist you to create your own unique teen kids room.

I realised lately there has been a huge focus on creating a Twilight Bedroom, which does not help a lot of teen boys to create a suitable bedroom for themselves.  I therefore will be spending a bit of time posting some ideas for some unique boys bedrooms.

If you are looking for a specific bedroom design or style for your own male teen kids room, please feel free to leave a comment or contact us with your ideas and we will be sure to include some ideas for you on that theme or topic.

For now, we are going to start with sports.  Most boys are into sports – either following sports or participating.  Boys who are interested in sports usually have a team or a sporting hero whom they follow or aspire to be.  This can be a great idea for creating a themed room for your male teen kids room.

First Step – Deciding on the Theme

Does your son enjoy a particular sport, such as American Football, Ice Hockey or Soccer? You should work with your son when creating the ideal teen kids room, and use the time for bonding and getting creative together.  Be open to what your son wants and if his suggestions are not to your liking, rather than saying no, try compromising.  For example, if your son loves black and wants a black bedroom, compromise by suggesting a black feature wall. This can look very effective and not darken the bedroom at all when only used as a feature.   

Teen Kids Room (boys sport theme)

Step Two – Colour Scheme

Now that the two of you have decided on a theme for your teen kids room, the choosing of the colours should be fairly simple and straight forward.  For examples, the colours of the team your son follows, or the colours of your country flag if they are going for a patriotic theme.

Step Three – Working Out What You Need

This step depends on your budget and what you actually need to bring your teen kids room theme to life.  What do you have that you can use already?  Do you know of anyone who may have what you need and be interested in giving it to you or selling it to you?  Can you find what you need on eBay?  Can you use your creativity to make what you need and just buy a few pieces of materials to assist you to do this?  Or do you need an entire new range of furniture?

Step Four – Make a Start

The best way to get something done is to just start!  Buy what you need for the room, start drawing plans, brain storm with your son on what he’d like and take action to make it happen

Murals For Kids Rooms

Are you looking for some ideas for decorating your teen kids room or toddler’s room and don’t know where to start?  Have you thought of wall murals?  Wall murals for kids bedrooms (or any age, really) are an awesome way to bring a bedroom alive and transform it into an exciting place to be and play!

How To Start

The best way to start is to look at what your kid’s interests are.  What do they like?  Are there any television shows / movies or tv characters that they love?  Do they love animals or do they have an interest in music?  What about fantasy – does your little girl imagine herself as a princess, or does your son want to be a fireman?  Spend some time observing your child and what they really love.

Brainstorming

Next, start brain-storming on some ideas for what you can do with their bedroom.  Will you paint just one feature wall, or the entire bedroom in the theme?  Will you paint the roof as well as the walls?  What will you do about the floor – carpet, wood, or is there an opportunity there to paint the floor or vinyl it in a suitable fashion to blend in with the new theme?

 

If you have come up with a short list of options, do some analysis to determine which would be the most effective theme to go with.  Does your child have a preference out of your options?  Is your child more likely to grow out of some of the themes more quickly than others?  For example, some cartoon characters can be a theme in relation to the child’s age, such as Thomas the Tank Engine.  Whereas an interest or love of animals or music can be more of a long-term thing.

Determining Your Budget

Next – what is your budget?  How much can you afford to spend on decorating your kids room?  Can you afford to hire a muralist to paint the room for you, or would you like to have a go and painting it yourself?  If you are an artistic type, you may be able to come up with your own designs and have a go at painting your kids room yourself.  If you aren’t artistic and have the budget, don’t worry too much about details, prepare a rough idea of what you have in mind, and present it to a muralist for further development.  This is their area of expertise and they are there to assist you to create the most suitable design.

Finding a Suitable Muralist

Trouble finding a muralist?  I know of one personally that I can recommend, who is located in Nelson, named Brian McLauchlin (www.artman.ca).  Brian is an all-round artist and if you have been to Nelson, BC, Canada, you will know of Brian’s work around the town!  Although Brian is located in Canada, he may be available to travel, depending where you are.  Otherwise, for the US, you may find this website suitable for searching a muralist in your area: www.FindAMuralist.com.

Making it Happen!

Next step is making it happen!  The muralist you use may be skilled in other areas and be able to supplement their work with other artistry work such as wood work, building a castle entrance / door to fit the “princess” theme, creating a ’secret passageway’ or play alcove in the room.  I have seen bedrooms whereby part of the room is sectioned off with a painted wall and an ornamental door that the child has to climb through or even slide down a slippery slide to, to enter the play area of the room.  This can help to keep the room looking presentable as well, if you section off the play area.

I have also seen alcoves being built into walls to hold the bed, creating an adventurous sleeping arrangement for your kids!

The ideas are endless for what you can do to really make your teen kids room or toddler’s room unique.  With a bit of research, brainstorming with your kids and then making it happen, this can be a really fun project.  And what a better a time to do it than in the Christmas holiday season!  Perhaps you can make this a your Christmas present to your child or teen.  At the very least, have fun with it!
